How to sell a used Tesla in Australia
A used Tesla in Australia still sells like a specialist car, not a Camry. Buyers want the VIN, the battery screenshot, and a clean PPSR. They do not want a 3% dealer intro.
What buyers open first
- Year, variant, and kilometres in the headline.
- A side-on photo in daylight, not a carpark flash.
- Service history in the Tesla app, not a PDF of adjectives.
- Whether the car is heat-pump (2021 Model 3/Y onward for most Australian stock).
Paperwork that actually matters
- PPSR certificate dated the week you list. Tesla finance balloons still show up.
- Registration in your name in the same state as the listing city.
- Transfer: each state has its own EV discount or stamp duty rule. Do not quote NSW numbers to a Queensland buyer.
- VIN last six in the listing. Full VIN in the message thread after they ask.
Why the listing fee is $400
usedtesla.au charges $400 AUD through Stripe to publish for 60 days. There is no extra cut when the car sells. If a dealer takes 3% of a $50,000 Model 3, that is $1,500. The classified fee is the smaller, known number.
Photos that do not waste a scroll
Shoot north-facing shade. Include the charge port, the front boot, the rear seats, the odometer in kilometres, and the tyre date codes. Do not watermark. Do not use Tesla marketing stills — they are not your car.
Price
Look at live Model 3 and Model Y listings in your city first, then shade for kilometres and wheels. Uberturbines need a discount versus Aero. PPF and a tow bar are worth naming; they are not automatically worth $4,000.
